Why is a Dental Retainer so important? How long do I need to wear a Dental Retainer? What if I never had Orthodontic Treatment, will my teeth still shift? What type of Dental Retainer should I wear?
Why is a Dental Retainer so important? Orthodontic success is temporary unless you properly use a quality dental retainer. You should always have a well fitting orthodontic retainer.
How long do I need to wear a Dental Retainer? Retainers are for life at some small usage level (see Retainer Schedule). Teeth move throughout life in response to any force imbalance. Imbalanced Lip pressures, tongue pressures, cheek pressures, changes in the way you sleep or speak, and bite disturbances (as caused by wisdom teeth or poor dental work) are some of the things that cause teeth to move. And the teeth can move either fast or slow….but its usually fast. That is why we recommend getting a Backup Retainer.
What if I never had Orthodontic Treatment, will my teeth still shift? Absolutely. Even if your teeth were always straight, they are just as likely to shift over time as patients who have had orthodontic treatment. Teeth shift due to oral force imbalance. And force imbalance is inevitable.
What type of Dental Retainer should I wear? ForgiverTM Retainers are a durable orthodontic retainer that has a lot of advantages over other retainer types. We encourage you to get whatever orthodontic retainer you want, but we believe - and our patients agree - that ForgiverTM Retainers offer more than other dental retainers.
